Brek

Graffiti has been the one thing that’s given me the opportunity to be as free as I can be.  For one thing, it gave me the opportunity to choose my own name, BREK.  The name itself doesn’t mean anything; its up to me to give it meaning every time i use it. Much of what we go through as graffiti artists goes unnoticed.  My work is an attempt to turn people’s eyes to what we overlook everyday.

Los Angeles is a place where too much is overlooked.  The irony is that this place was made for those that want to be seen.  I believe that the way out of this irony is to honestly capture the moments that give this place its life.  Whether its through humor or social commentary, my work is meant to convey the moment. This gives me the freedom to paint honestly and without censorship. like the city my art doesn’t have any single identifying feature but is made of all the varying experiences that I encounter. No individual experience is the same as the another so each piece of art has its own life.  For these reasons I use a variety of styles and mediums.

My hope is that my audience is receptive to the ever changing facets of life in a place that doesn’t have a single face.
